Properly caring for your projector is the easiest way to ensure that it lasts and lasts and performs flawlessly when you need it. Some simple steps that you can take include: - Take the time to thoroughly read your owner's/user's manual that came with your presentation projector. Model-specific information for your projector can be found there which may include special care instructions for your particular make and model.
- Familiarize yourself with your projector and all of its features before using it in a presentation for the first time. This will help make your presentation flow smoothly and effortlessly.
- Start by making sure the laptop and projector are both turned off before you start trying to make any connections. Protect the power cord from being walked on or pinched particularly at plugs, convenience receptacles, and the point where they exit from the apparatus.
- Most slide projectors run on rubber belts that will lock into one position or formation if left unused for long periods of time. It is best to run your projector periodically to avoid this. This will also help prevent the lubricants from hardening in one position.
- Locate the video cable - it doesn't matter which end you connect to either device. Connect one end to the Projector “Computer In” port and connect the other end to the Video (external monitor) port on the laptop.
- The primary maintenance requirement for a video projector is changing or cleaning the filter. Clean filters allow the projectors to stay cool, which is critical for keeping them healthy. Clean filters every 3 - 6 months, depending on frequency of use. Replace filters according to the schedule specified in your owner's manual. Some manufacturers now offer "filter-less" projectors, which means less ladder-climbing and cleaning for you.

It is recommended to keep your presentation projector at least 2 feet, unless otherwise specified, from walls, ceilings, or enclosed compartment walls. Only use attachments/accessories specified by the manufacturer.
- Always use the air filter. Operation without the air filter allows the projector to draw in dust, smoke, and other particles in the air that can cause damage to your projector.

Do not attempt to use any A/V equipment if the ground pin in the plug has broken off. There is a shock hazard if you were to touch a metal part on the projector and another grounded item.
- Do not install near any heat sources such as radiators, heat registers, stoves, or other apparatus (including amplifiers) that produce heat. Unplug this apparatus during lightning storms or when unused for long periods of time.

Adjust the direction of the projector to keep light from directly hitting the projector's remote sensor. The remote control works with the projector's remote sensors.
