IEEE 1394 with DTV

IEEE 1394 /Apple's FireWire/ ILink/ DTVLink

Firewire is a high-speed serial connection that allows for asynchronous and isochronous data transfers. The IEEE 1394 specification was originally created by Apple in 1995 and was developed in coordination with the IEEE Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers group.

IEEE 1394 is the industry standard for the scalable, flexible, easy to use, inexpensive interface that allows for fast transfers between removable peripherals and personal computers. IEEE 1394 was originally created to be a universal interconnect among many different devices to eliminate the need for large number of IO connecting media. The integration of ports and the space saved not to mention the savings in cost and complexity are major players in advancing this hardware.

Conceived in principle by Apple Computer (like FireWire ®), developed later by the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers), this high speed 2-way allows for easy transfer of digital information between electronic equipment and computers of consumers . It is found in some TV with a capacity for HDTV tuners and recorders. Note that some HDTV equipped with an IEEE 1394 port only allow a reproduction through the connection.

IEEE1394, also know as Apple's FireWire® and Sony's i.LINK,® is an industry standard for a scalable, flexible, easy to use, low-cost digital interface that integrates the worlds of consumer electronics and personal computers. It was first conceived by Apple Computer and then developed by the 1394 Working Group within the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).  IEEE 1394 is also known by the names ILink and Fire Wire. Apple computer corporation version is called Fire Wire while Sony and other corporation’s version is called ILink

Example:

Toshiba has done a great job with their line of DLP televisions. They not only offer phenomenal color reproduction, but the connectivity layout is exceptional as well. HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) is a single cable connection that ensures pure digital form in both audio and video. IEEE 1394 with DTV Link makes camcorder connections a snap. And component, composite, and S-Video connections allow multiple device setups without the need for adapter switches.
